“My recent trip to Kazakhstan was short and intense. I was there for 36 hours to attend Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Almaty, a main fashion event in Central Asia. It was launched one year ago, and since then, I’ve seen great progress among the local designers. The main market still remains the same: local stores in Almaty and Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan. Some designers are reaping the benefits of the economic boom in Azerbaijan, and a few are selling in Russia.
It’s interesting to see how this young breed of Kazakh designers is developing. This season I discovered Tolegen Batentayev, a trained architect who made a move to the fashion industry…“
